About Lam Dong provice

History

Lam Dong’s history is intertwined with the presence of various ethnic communities, including the Ma, Co Ho, MNong, Chu Ru, Rac Lay, and others who practiced shifting cultivation and subsistence farming. By the late 19th century, these communities had established self-sustaining economies, focusing on cultivation, hunting, gathering, and handicraft industries like weaving, blacksmithing, and knitting. However, the region’s development was interrupted by the escalating war and the influx of migrants from the central provinces. Agriculture and industry evolved to some extent, but the impact of the war and the shift to strategic hamlets disrupted the supply of agricultural and forestry products.

Industrial production, including tea processing, wood processing, electricity and water production, and porcelain production, began to develop. Additionally, some handicraft industries like jam and wine processing, wooden furniture production, and handicrafts started to take shape in Da Lat. Nonetheless, these industries remained limited in most other areas.

Administration: Lam Dong comprises two provincial cities and ten districts, totaling 147 commune-level administrative units. This includes 116 communes, 18 wards, and 13 towns.
